Waiting for the bus always takes a long time, so I've been reading more books lately. Thank God; I have so many that are unread!

Mexico: A Traveler's Literary Companion
Mexico: A Traveler's Literary Companion

This is a collection of short stories and excerpts of writers from all over Mexico, in which the editor rightly points out how much wonderful literature which comes from that region goes untranslated and unappreciated. I've always been fond of anthologies (which might have something to do with having the attention span of a goldfi- hey, what's that over there?) and C.M. Mayo does a great job of providing an interesting mix of voices, places, and moments in time.

To be continued....there are more coming, though.

A story of passion, love, anger, and denial + magical realism + delicious Mexcian recipes = Yum! I couldn't put this book down. The story, characters, and setting are all immediately captivating and will leave you feeling satisfied, yet craving more. When I feel a little more confident in my Spanish, I'll definitely read it in the original language.

Ok, I think I've found a pretty good purpose for this blog. I've purchased way too many books the past couple weeks, and I'm really going to read them this time. Really! So, here I'll document what I've been reading. To begin...

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (P.S.)
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (P.S.)

This was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I really identified with Francie Nolan and loved her story of growing up in early 20th century Brooklyn. It was also one of those books that taught me Life Lessons without me realizing it- namely, the issue of class differences that our society still faces today.

Holy crap, I loved this book. I was jealous of Claudia's (and Jamie's, sort of) well-thought out plan to run away to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and live there for a few days. I didn't understand until much later Claudia's need to run away and have an adventure and come back different somehow. I still want to have adventures to this day.

Nothing But The Truth: A Documentary Novel
Nothing But The Truth: A Documentary Novel

I read this in seventh grade, I believe. This is one the first things that taught me about media literacy and not to believe everything I hear in the news.

The Way

Not a book, but THIS SONG IS AWESOME. 10 MB, but totally worth it!

Edit: The formatting is pretty messed up, but I don't know how to fix it. I should be only covering one book per post after this. If you care.

Um. This Vox thing looks pretty cool. Maybe it will wean me off LiveJournal. It certainly looks prettier. I like how easily you can add books and music.
